How to Apply

Applications should be submitted as early as possible , preferably with the opening of ERAS to ensure proper review.

• Graduation from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school within the last 5 years, preferably within the last 3 years.
• For international medical school graduates, we require ECFMG certification or eligibility prior to rank submission deadline. Delays in exam completion due to the pandemic will be taken into consideration.
• No greater than two failures on all of the USMLE examinations. Passage of step 1 and step 2 compulsory to be considered for ranking, and favorable for interview selection. Those with prior failures on step 1 or step 2 will be required to have a passage on step 2 to be offered an interview. Applicants that are out of school for over a year should plan to have passage of step 3 on file as well.
• Three letters of recommendation in addition to the MSPE (Dean’s letter). Applicants with previous residency experience should include a letter from their previous residency program director.
• ONLY J1-visa candidates considered on a case-by-case basis. Work authorization in the US is required for application otherwise.

• Yes, we have a tradition of accepting residents from non-US medical schools.
• An applicant who is expected to graduate (or has graduated) from a non-LCME accredited international medical school must satisfy New York State’s 12-week rule in order to be eligible to participate in a medical residency training program in New York State. The rule, promulgated by the New York State Department of Health, provides that an individual who graduates from a non-LCME accredited international medical school may not train in New York State if his/her medical school education includes more than 12 weeks of clinical clerkship rotations outside of the country in which his/her medical school is located.
• For purposes of counting clinical rotation time that occurred outside of the country in which an applicant’s medical school is located, only rotations that are required for the applicant’s medical education degree should be considered.
• Exception for approved schools: The New York State Department of Education has approved a list of schools that are excluded from this general rule. Applicants who attend one of the following schools are not subject to the 12-week rule:

  • The Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Guadalajara, Mexico
  • English Language Program, University of Debrecen, Medical and Health Science Center, Medical School, Debrecen, Hungary

• We are not participating in a separate osteopathic match at this time. We do have a track within our program for osteopathic distinction.

We offer 10 residency positions per year.

We receive more than 2,200 applications during recruitment season.

We prefer to interview our applicants in person on Fridays in the months of October through January. This allows us to share our location and offerings best for your education. Limited virtual dates will be made available to applicants with extenuating circumstances which will offer similar interview structure to our in-person day without as much resident interaction. We offer complimentary dinner the night before and hotel accommodations for the in-person interview dates.

• All applicants selected to be interviewed will be notified via thalamus/ERAS starting the first week of October.
• To schedule your interview, please use the thalamus interface or call our office directly. The interview calendar is filled on a first-come-first-serve basis and there will be more available dates the sooner you schedule. We are usually done offering interview slots by the end of November.Please plan to respond within 4 days because your slot may be extended to another applicant, and your application may need to be reconsidered for interview.
