Nurse Practitioner Residency

In July 2020, the Institute for Family Health will welcome our first class of family nurse practitioner residents.

The mission of the Institute’s Family Nurse Practitioner Residency is to prepare nurse practitioners to provide outstanding primary health care services in medically underserved communities. Our NYC-based residency program leverages the strengths of advance practice nursing and the community health center model of care to provide a comprehensive and effective training experience in an urban environment.

The Family Nurse Practitioner Residency is a one-year salaried program based in the Bronx that provides intensive training in interdisciplinary care for underserved populations, as well as continuing education activities. The program includes precepted and independent continuity patient care sessions, specialty rotations, and didactic learning. The residency is interdisciplinary in its approach to providing team-based care for diverse patient populations and offers residents the opportunity to prepare for leadership positions within health care and public health.

The residency is operated in collaboration with Mercy College and receives funding from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
