Kingston, NY (April 4, 2017) – The Institute for Family Health is delighted to announce that the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD) presented Dr. Ephraim Back, residency program director for the Institute for Family Health’s Mid-Hudson Family Medicine Residency Program in Kingston, NY, with a bronze level Program Director Recognition Award on March 25, 2017, during the AFMRD Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Mo.

The AFMRD Program Director Recognition Awards are bestowed upon residency program directors in recognition of their contribution to family medicine. The awards are earned through accomplishments in the areas of tenure, training, performance, and advocacy.  Awardees at the bronze level must have held the position of program director for at least three years; prepared and successfully presented at professional workshops or seminars or authored publications in refereed scientific journals; encouraged professional development in their peers, along with themselves, through family medicine-centered conferences, workshops, and programs; given service to local, regional or state family medicine organizations; completed a family medicine advocacy course; and corresponded with local, state or federal legislature regarding family medicine priorities.

“Dr. Back is an exemplary clinical mentor,” said Dr. Red Schiller, the Institute’s senior vice president for medical affairs and medical education. “His wisdom and experience has contributed enormously to the program’s successes, and he inspires the rest of the faculty to work at their highest level.”

The AFMRD was founded in 1990 and represents nearly 800 family medicine program directors nationwide.  The Institute for Family Health’s Mid-Hudson Family Medicine Residency Program was founded in 1979 and now graduates 10 physicians annually. The program is a collaboration between the Institute and HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, and receives prestigious federal “Teaching Health Centers” funding from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
