Salam Hawa, MD

Medical School - American University of Antigua College of Medicine
Undergraduate - McMaster University

Dr. Salam Hawa grew up in Toronto, Canada, where he pursued an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics at McMaster University. He concluded his bachelor’s in Health Sciences from American International College of Arts and Sciences, and subsequently received his medical degree from American University of Antigua College of Medicine. He developed an interest in medicine from an early age, observing his father’s work as a full-spectrum doctor. On travels with his family, his passion for medicine grew as he witnessed first-hand the need for primary care in underserved populations throughout Canada, Australia, the Caribbean, and the United States. Through these experiences and his volunteer work that ensued, he gained a lifelong passion for a more holistic approach to family medicine, specifically towards preventative care, women’s health, inpatient care, and chronic disease management. Dr. Hawa, alongside his colleagues, was recently awarded first place by the American College of Physicians for their research concerning the impact of rising medical school costs on a doctor’s decision to pursue a career in primary care. He is excited to join the medical team at Mid-Hudson Valley Family Residency Program and to share his passion for medicine with the community. Dr. Hawa enjoys outdoor sports, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, reading, relaxing with family and friends and is an avid dog lover.
