Mahtenney Serifou wins BEE Award

April 28, 2025

The Institute was thrilled to recognize Mahtenney Serifou, a medical office assistant at our 17th Street location, with the BEE Award. The award was announced on April 24, 2025, as part of Administrative Professionals Day.

The BEE “(Be Excellent Everyday”) Award honors medical office assistants (MOAs) and patient service representatives (PSRs) who demonstrate integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect and excellence in patient care. Nominations for the award come from patients, patients’ families and fellow staff.

Below is an excerpt from the nomination for Ms. Serifou. All nominations are anonymous and edited for readability:

“I am a senior citizen and this staff member was very patient with me as she escorted me from the waiting area to the doctor’s office. She slowed down her walking and told me to please take my time. Before taking my blood pressure reading, she told me to take a deep breath and slowly breathe out. I was also seen by her in December 2024, and at first, I thought that she was just doing her job but when I saw her also in January 2025 and she acted the exact same way…I said to myself she is just a genuinely wonderful human being. Another thing that really caught my attention was when she was talking to someone else and she said “I really love my job.” I believe she loves her job and this is why she took such good care of me. She also helped me to get on and off the scale. I have come across a lot of people in my life and I know the difference between a good-hearted, hard-working professional and someone who is working for the money. This young lady is doing her job because she genuinely loves what she does. Thank you for hiring her.”

The Institute is so grateful to our MOAs and PSRs for all they do to care for our patients. Their efforts are a key part of our mission to provide top quality care to all our patients.
