International Doula Month

April 30, 2019

May is International Doula Month! The Institute for Family Health is proud to offer a no-cost doula matching service as part of our comprehensive prenatal care program in New York City.

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and shortly after childbirth. Research has shown that continuous support from a doula is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor, which may include shortened labor, decreased need for analgesia, fewer cesareans, and fewer reports of dissatisfaction with the experience of labor.

Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family. We are pleased to make this service available to all families receiving care at the Institute. Patients who are interested in being matched with a volunteer doula may speak to their Maternal Health Advocate or contact the Maternal Health and Centering Coordinator at 212-633-0800.
