Dr. Saskia Shuman to lead the Institute’s Clinical Research Fellowship

December 15, 2025

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Saskia Shuman, PhD, Assistant Vice President of Research Operations, will serve as director of our Clinical Research Fellowship program. This fellowship is a two-year program designed to train family medicine physicians in the fundamentals of clinical and population health research while also advancing the Institute’s mission of both generating and using evidence-based practices to benefit its diverse patient population.

The fellowship is a collaboration between the Institute, Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley, and the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), with funding from New York State. To date, the program has trained 11 family medicine physicians, and have pursued research projects in topics such as reproductive health, addiction medicine, integrative medicine, and others. This year, the fellowship will officially recruit a candidate through the match process in addiction medicine, and the fellow will develop a research project in a topic pertaining to addiction medicine, while completing the required clinical hours.

Dr. Shuman assumes the directorship role in place of Dr. Neil Calman, the Institute’s Co-Founder, President and CEO Emeritus, who retired earlier this year. Please join us in congratulating her!
