Celebrating Health Centers and Democracy at National Health Center Week 2018

August 31, 2018

This month, the Institute for Family Health participated in National Health Center Week (August 12th- 18th). An initiative of the National Association of Community Health Centers and the Health Center Advocacy Network, National Health Center Week is an annual celebration that raises awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers.

The Institute celebrated National Health Center Week by promoting voter registration at our health centers. Institute staff were onsite at our health centers in New Paltz, Kingston, Manhattan and Brooklyn to provide information and help people register to vote. Anyone can pick up a voter registration form at any of our health centers anytime – we even include them in our new patient registration packets!

Voter registration benefits our health centers, our patients and our democracy. The Institute and other health centers gain when the people we serve vote at higher rates — in fact, research has shown that individuals who register to vote are more connected to their communities and have better health outcomes. Plus, our democracy is stronger when citizens of all ages, incomes and backgrounds participate.

Still need to register?  The deadline in New York State is October 12, 2018. You can check if you’re registered, register to vote onlinedownload a registration form, or find out which elections are happening in your district.

We’ll see you at the polls!
