Dr. Neil Calman Inducted into National Academy of Medicine

In a ceremony in Washington, D.C., this month, Institute co-founder, president & CEO Dr. Neil Calman was officially inducted into the prestigious National Academy of Medicine.
With more than four decades of experience as a family physician and health care executive serving low-income communities, Dr. Calman’s achievements span efforts to improve access to health care for medically underserved communities, address racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes, and utilize innovative workforce development and information technology strategies to assure high-quality care and supportive communities for those most at risk.
NAM membership recognizes distinguished professional achievement in a field related to medicine and health. Election to NAM is highly selective, with no more than 70 regular members and 10 international members selected annually. Dr. Calman was elected to NAM in late 2017.
Founded in 1970 as the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) is one of three academies that make up the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies) in the United States. Operating under the 1863 Congressional charter of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academies are private, nonprofit institutions that work outside of government to provide objective advice on matters of science, technology, and health.
